“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.”
— Philippians 2:5 (NIV)
The Weight of Grief and Division
It is difficult, no matter your position, to not have some sort of exchange with others about the horror of the public execution of Charlie Kirk.
Some will double down on their own stance or views. Others may reconsider their alignments. Still others may recognize the gift that Charlie wore on his last day—freedom.
Before anything else, we must acknowledge that this is the horrific death of a brother in Christ. If we cannot feel some tinge of grief, it shows our minds have become numb to the preciousness and fragility of life.
The Question of Freedom
Freedom seems to be in short supply these days. And not the civil liberties of democracy, but the freedom of our minds and hearts.
To hold the mindset of Christ is to align with the very ethic and heart of God. This freedom cannot be found in political ideologies, national agendas, or sound bites. It comes only from Christ.
When we rejoice in death or lose the ability to grieve, it reveals that freedom in Christ is missing.
First Love Forgotten
“Have you forgotten your first love?”
That is the question I long to ask many today who once sat in pews and lifted their voices in worship. Too often, I see them echoing soulless rhetoric, believing they are contributing something meaningful, when in reality they are only serving as vessels for those who seek to bind their free will.
Such words cannot thrive where there is a true connection to the Gospel, where the lordship of Christ is elevated above every other voice.
Christ Over Every Platform
Charlie Kirk was both a man of God and a man with political purpose. I respected his encouragement for young men and women to build their lives on Christ.
But it is also important to draw a line between the two facets of a person. Christ was not an American, nor the representative of any national interest. He is Lord.
The Challenge for Us Today
So the question remains: are you living in freedom?
Are you free from messaging, ideas, and agendas that pull you away from the Lordship of Jesus? Or have you allowed yourself to be shaped more by sound bites than by the Spirit of God?
True freedom is not found in activism or politics, but in the transforming power of Christ. He alone sets us free.
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
— 2 Corinthians 3:17
Final Word:
Christ calls us to a freedom that shapes how we think, speak, and live. Will you allow your life to echo the noise of culture—or will you let yourself be shaped into the image of Christ, carrying His message of hope and freedom into a world that desperately needs Him?
Keep Looking Up,
Micah
